"You know like going to the pool, hanging out with friends," Marcos Fernandez said.
But dad is making sure to sprinkle in some summer reading at the Addison Public Library.
It's one of the Fernandez family's favorite places to spend time. And when school is out, it comes with a big bonus.
"My favorite part is that we get free lunch," Angel Fernandez said.
"That's the main reason we came out today because we have that perfect combination of, you know it's lunch time. Let's get the kids out for lunch. And at the same time, you know, play some games or some books. It's amazing," Carlos Fernandez said.
The lunch is provided by the Northern Illinois Food Bank's Summer Meals program. Last year, program leaders say the food bank passed out roughly 7,000 free meals each day to children across northern Illinois.

"When we're out at the summer feeding sites, like today, all we hear is appreciation and gratefulness that this opportunity is available," said Jessica Willis, director of Community Nutrition Programs.
With schools closing for summer break, a lot of families lose access to free and reduced-price school meals that many children rely on throughout the year.
"Hunger is all around us. You can't see it just from the houses or the roads and the streets. It's in every neighborhood," Willis said.
The Summer Meals program helps to fill the void by relieving families of some of the financial burden in June, July and even into August.
"You're talking three kids. Us? We're a family of five. That's easily between 50 and 60 bucks if we go to a regular fast-food restaurant," Carlos Fernandez said.
Instead, there's a free meal, family fun and maybe even a small break for parents and grandparents.
"Oh it's great because now she got something to do, and then she can eat, and then go home. And she can take a nap," grandmother Sheron Hare said.
There are nine locations for free Summer Meals in DuPage County alone, not to mention several other surrounding suburban counties.
