CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 30-year-old Oak Lawn man has been charged with attempted first-degree murder in a shooting downtown Chicago last month, Chicago police said Thursday.

Jaquell Hayes was arrested by members of the Chicago Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force on Tuesday in Oak Lawn, CPD said.

CPD said on March 13 he shot and seriously injured a 31-year-old man in the 100-block of West Adams Street in the Loop.

Police previously said the shooting took place at a 7-Eleven store.

They said the suspect began to rob the store, before being confronted by the 31-year-old, who he shot multiple times.

The victim was taken to Northwestern Hospital in critical condition.

Hayes is due in court Thursday.
