The medical examiner's office has also identified a man who was found shot to death on the South Side near the carjacked vehicle earlier this week.
Around 3:45 a.m. Wednesday, a 22-year-old man was sitting in his car with another man, 38, at West Waveland Avenue and North Halsted Street. Police said that's when two thieves walked up, carjacked the 22-year-old, shot him, and took off in his car. The 38-year-old man was not injured, police said.
Darwin Tirado, 22, was the man shot and killed, family members say.
A vigil for Tirado was held Saturday at the scene of the shooting on the 700 block of North Waveland Avenue.
Chef Art Smith joined the call for justice. Tirado worked at his restaurants. And his mother, who is also a chef, has been with Smith since the beginning of his career.
Police are still looking for the two carjackers who killed Tirado.
