Pedestrian struck, killed by Amtrak train near Berwyn; Metra trains extensively delayed: officials

BERWYN, Ill. (WLS) -- Metra trains were extensively delayed Sunday afternoon in the west suburbs after a pedestrian was struck and killed by an Amtrak train, officials said.



Amtrak Southwest Chief train #1003 traveling to Los Angeles from Chicago hit a pedestrian that was trespassing on the railroad tracks in Berwyn, Amtrak officials said.

The pedestrian died as a result of the collision, Amtrak confirmed. Their age, gender and identity were not yet known.

Metra trains were halted near Berwyn around 5 p.m. and began moving again around 7 p.m. due to the incident, Metra officials said.

Extensive delays were expected for Metra passengers.
