Police officer shoots dog after getting bit while making an arrest

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A Chicago police officer shot a dog while trying to make an arrest in the Austin neighborhood.

The incident happened Thursday afternoon in the 4900 block of Congress Parkway.

According to police, the officer was putting handcuffs on a man when the dog attacked and bit the officer.

Police say the dog, whose breed is unknown, survived and is in the custody of Animal Control.

The condition of the officer has not been released.
