Have you gotten a call that looks like it's from your local police department?
Be careful, it could be a scam.
Here's how it works: Someone calls, saying they're a sheriff or deputy. They claim they've seized a package in your name filled with drugs, weapons or cash and threaten that you'll be arrested unless you pay a fine.
The scammer may even spoof your caller ID, use the name of a real officer or know personal details about you.
Real police will never call to threaten arrest, and they will never demand payment by gift cards, Bitcoin, Zelle or Cash App.
If you get a call like this, hang up.
Contact your police department directly using a verified number, and report the scam to the Federal Trade Commission at ReportFraud.FTC.gov.
