Rabe'e Ata Juma'a Alqaq, 24, had traveled to Houston to represent Jordan in the Genuine Cup, a soccer tournament that features intellectually disabled athletes from 50 countries.
Campus police say he and his teammates had just settled into their dorms at Martel College around 9 p.m. Saturday.
Around midnight Sunday, police said Alqaq told his dormmates that he was going to do some exploring.
It was the last time anyone saw him.
Police say Alqaq's dormmates reported him missing around 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

"There were still some items in his room; so that's why it's kind of prompted us to believe that he's missing," said Lt. Francisco Fernandez with the Rice University Police Department.
Rice officials said Tuesday that Alqaq was found safe in Bridgeview.
He contacted the Rice University Police Department Tuesday morning after seeing news reports that he had been reported missing.
Officials said he traveled to the Chicago area by bus of his own accord, and no foul play is suspected. The reason for his departure remains unknown and will be part of the investigation if and when he returns to Houston.
RUPD coordinated with local authorities in Illinois, the Jordan Consulate of Texas and Alqaq's soccer team to confirm his well-being. The department is also working with those partners to arrange his return to Houston.
