St. Florian Santa comes down from roof, school to stay open thanks to donation

CHICAGO (WLS) -- St. Florian School in Hegewisch will remain open thanks to a donation.

Santa Claus came down from the roof Thursday night. Santa is actually a South Side father who had been camping on the roof of St. Florian in the Hegewisch neighborhood since December 7 in an effort to raise money to keep it open.

On Thursday, the Big Shoulders Fund, which provides assistance to Catholic schools, donated $25,000.

St. Florian has been part of the Hegewisch neighborhood for 107 years.
