Prime Healthcare says its suspending obstetric units at Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, Mercy Medical Center in Aurora and Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago.
Prime says those hospitals average less than one birth a day each.

Two new centers for maternal care will be located at Saint Mary of Nazareth Hospital in Chicago and Olympia Fields Hospital in Olympia Fields.
Congresswoman Lauren Underwood met with Prime, and said in a statement, "Based on my conversation with them today, Prime does not appear to have adequately prepared for the speedy closures, which are targeted for October FIRST. They have made no plans to help moms who will have to travel for care access transportation, or even any efforts to understand how this decision will affect their health."
