State Street Bridge over Chicago River downtown to reopen this week, CDOT says

Wednesday, March 25, 2026
CHICAGO (WLS) -- The State Street Bridge is about to reopen this week, according to the Chicago Department of Transportation.

The bridge was shut down for emergency repairs last year.

It was originally scheduled to reopen mid-November, but was then pushed to January 2026 for additional steel repairs and "weather-related delays," CDOT said.

CDOT says it will reopen this Friday, March 27 to vehicles and pedestrians.

The rehab work on critical structural and operational components has now been completed.
