CHANNAHON, Ill. (WLS) -- A suspect is in custody after allegedly hitting a Will County sheriff's patrol car during a police chase through the south suburbs on Friday night, officials said.

The Will County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to help the Channahon Police Department and other agencies in pursuing a wanted fugitive around 11:35 p.m.

During the chase, the suspect's vehicle struck a Will County sheriff's patrol car, occupied by a deputy, in a Joliet gas station parking lot in the 3000-block of Plainfield Road, the sheriff's office said. The deputy was not injured.

The pursuit ended when the suspect's vehicle became disabled near the Homer Township intersection of 143rd Street and Interstate 355.

After the suspect ignored commands to get out of the vehicle, deputies broke a window, the sheriff's office said. The suspect was handcuffed and turned over to the custody of the Channahon Police Department.

Authorities did not immediately provide further information.
