Chicago police officer killed, another critically injured in shooting at Swedish Hospital: LIVE

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A suspect is in custody after two Chicago police officers were shot, one fatally, at a North Side hospital on Saturday morning, officials confirmed.

The shooting happened at Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital, located at 5140 North California Avenue in the city's Ravenswood neighborhood, according to statements from Aldermen Andre Vasquez and Jim Gardiner.



Endeavor Health said the shooting happened around 11 a.m. The hospital campus is on lockdown, and law enforcement officials are on the scene.

Vasquez said as of 12:10 p.m., a suspect is in custody.



ABC7 obtained a letter sent to the police department by Supt. Larry Snelling confirming one officer has died and another remains in critical condition.

Endeavor Health issued the following statement after the shooting:
"An individual in custody of law enforcement was brought in to Swedish Hospital Emergency Department for treatment at approximately 9am on Saturday, April 25, 2026. In accordance with Endeavor Health public safety weapon detection protocols, this individual was wanded upon arrival. He was escorted by law enforcement at all times. The individual later fired shots at the law enforcement officers and exited the hospital building. He was apprehended and remains in custody. No team members or patients were physically harmed as a result of this incident. The safety of our patients and team members remains our top priority. We are cooperating with law enforcement during their investigation and our deepest compassion remains with the officers and their families."

Authorities did not immediately provide further information.
