CHICAGO (WLS) -- The U.S. attorney has filed a motion to dismiss charges against two of the so-called "Broadview Six" defendants.

Prosecutors had accused the group of surrounding a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement vehicle and clashing with federal agents during a protest last September.

Now, the U.S. Attorney is asking a judge to drop charges against Cook County Board candidate Catherine Sharp and Joselyn Walsh.

The six previously pleaded not guilty.

Because the six include four Democrats either running for office or already serving, supporters allege they are being prosecuted for their political beliefs and not because of anything they actually did on that day.

House candidate Kat Abughazaleh and five others were charged with felony offenses for their alleged involvement in a series of skirmishes with officers that later went viral on social media outside of the facility in Broadview.

Abughazaleh's campaign Friday said she filed a motion to compel seeking communications, records, and information from the government about the decision to charge her.

If convicted, the conspiracy count carries a maximum of six years in federal prison.
