Waukegan alderperson accused of signing mail-in ballot with deceased mother's name

WAUKEGAN, Ill. (WLS) -- A Waukegan alderperson is facing charges after being accused of falsifying an election ballot.

Sylvia Sims Bolton is facing a felony and misdemeanor charge for allegedly signing a mail in ballot with her mother's name in February.



Bolton's mother was deceased when the ballot was mailed, officials said.

Bolton is the alderperson for the First Ward in Waukegan.



ABC7 has reached out to the alderperson for comment but has not heard back.
