Weight-loss surgery can significantly improve health, but doctors say it's not a one-size-fits-all solution.

During a Wellness Month conversation, ABC7 writer and producer Brianna Sitkowski shared her experience losing more than 200 pounds after bariatric surgery with her doctor, Dr. Eric Hungness of Northwestern Medicine.

Sitkowski said the decision was about more than weight loss, it was about protecting her long-term health. Hungness noted that patients are carefully evaluated physically and mentally, and that surgery is a tool that requires lifelong lifestyle changes.

Experts stress that weight-loss surgery isn't right for everyone, but for the right patient, it can be transformative.
