Possible human skull, bones found in south suburban field; officials investigating Wednesday

MOKENA, Ill. (WLS) -- A possible human skull was found in southwest suburban Mokena, the Will County Sheriff's Office said.

Land surveyors Tuesday afternoon were near Oakwood Drive and Townline Road, where they found what appeared to be a human skull, the sheriff's office said.



When sheriff's deputies arrived, they found additional bones scattered throughout a field in the area.

On Wednesday morning, police returned to the area to continue searching for remains.

The bones that have been found have been turned over to the Will County Coroner's Office.



Officials are checking if the remains match DNA from any missing persons cases.

The sheriff's office said the public should expect a large police presence in the area during the investigation.
