The victim said the offender approached her with a knife and sexually assaulted her near the Wilson stop in the 4600-block of North Broadway around 11 p.m. on June 16, police said.
Word of the attack had Red Line riders on edge Thursday night.
"It's really shocking because I usually take the train, sometimes at night, late coming from work. So it's just scary," said Nadiya Yunusa, CTA rider.
"It's very alarming. I'm shocked. Well, unfortunately, I'm not shocked because this happens quite often," said Bohdan Havrylyshyn, a CTA rider.
Police said the victim took herself to a hospital on the South Side. Investigators have not said if the attacker was captured on surveillance video.
"Hearing this news, I would expect more from the CTA. It's public transit," Havrylyshyn said.
No one is in custody and police are continuing to investigate.
