World Cup turtle predicts winner of Brazil-Mexico match-up

PRAIA DO FORTE, Brazil (WLS) -- The World Cup turtle predicted Brazil will beat Mexico in one of Tuesday's most highly-anticipated match-ups.

Cabecao or "Big Head" is host nation Brazil's chosen turtle tipster. The loggerhead turtle was given the choice between eating a fish hung from a Brazilian flag, a Mexican flag or a football, indicating a draw.

Big Head gave locals a scare when he ate the bait below the Mexican flag first. But the hungry turtle then ate the bait under the football and finally the bait under the Brazilian flag.

Members of the Tamar Project, which works to preserve endangered sea turtles, interpret Big Head's choices to mean Mexico will take an early lead, but Brazil will tie things up and win the game.

The 25-year-old male sea turtle correctly predicted Tuesday that the host nation would beat Croatia in the opening game of the World Cup on Thursday in Sao Paulo.

Big Head is Brazil's answer to Germany's Paul the Octopus, who started the psychic animal craze during the 2010 World Cup and spawned a slew of imitations around the world.

He resides at the Praia do Forte turtle sanctuary north of Salvador in Brazil.
