Rose was born in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where she grew up with 11 brothers and sisters and her father worked in a mine.

"I lived in Ishpeming, I was born in Ishpeming. We had the hills in back [of our house.] We tap danced... we did everything on that hill," she recalled.

Rose moved to Chicago in the 1930s, where she worked at a paper factory for many years. She lived on Erie Street for 80 years, and a section of Erie was named in her honor when she turned 100.

She has two children, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

To celebrate her birthday, she even did a little dancing - just like the old days!
