Pedestrian killed, 2 others injured in Stevenson Expressway crash on Southwest Side: ISP

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A pedestrian is dead and two other people are injured after a Stevenson Expressway crash on Chicago's Southwest Side, Illinois State Police said.

ISP said the crash happened on Interstate 55 at Cicero Avenue just after 6:40 p.m.

Three pedestrians were trying to change a tire on the passenger side of a vehicle stopped on the right shoulder of I-55 when a pickup truck left the roadway and traveled onto the shoulder, ISP said. The truck struck the stopped vehicle and two of the pedestrians.

ISP said one pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead. Another pedestrian and the pickup truck's driver were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. The third pedestrian reported no injuries on the scene.

All southbound lanes were shut down at Cicero Avenue after the crash. All lanes were back open Monday morning.
