STICKNEY, Ill. (WLS) -- Stickney Village officials are investigating after one person died and two others were injured in an RV that caught fire at a gas station Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

Chopper7 was over the scene near the intersection of Pershing and Cicero in Stickney as police and fire officials investigated the scene of a vehicle that appeared to be heavily damaged by a fire. The fire started around 3 p.m., according to investigators.

"When we arrived we found the RV totally engulfed in flames," Stickney Fire Department Chief Jeff Boyajian said.

Video taken by a witness showed flames spreading to the top of the gas station canopy

Stickney's police chief says a patrol officer first spotted the smoke.

"He was unable to get to the vehicle due to the level of flames," Stickney Police Department Chief James Sassetti said.

When fire crews arrived, they found two people injured outside of the burning RV.

"One of the victims was out of the RV in front of the store, the other one was close to the car wash," Boyajian said.

Those victims told fire officials there was one person who didn't make it out. Once the fire was extinguished, emergency crews found a person dead inside the RV. The two other people injured were taken to nearby hospitals.

Investigators are hoping surveillance video will provide more insight into what caused the deadly fire.

"We're in the process of ascertaining video and reviewing that video to get a better indication of what led up to this incident and subsequent events when it was on going," Boyajian said.

It was not immediately known how, or if the three victims are related. The person who died has not yet been identified.

No further information surrounding the cause of the fire was immediately available.
