Both the Chicago and Illinois departments of public health said they are investigating the salmonella outbreak.

According to health officials, 10 of the affected people have been hospitalized.
Carnicería Guanajuato voluntarily closed the taquería on Sept. 8 and is cooperating with CDPH to determine a source of the infections, officials said.
A sign on the front door of the Mexican grocery store says the taquería is temporarily closed.
"I didn't know this. I mean, you see the sign, It doesn't say why they're closed," said customer Evelyn Brito.

Brito's lunch break plans to eat at the taquería on hold for now.
"I'm honestly shocked because they're very clean," said Brito. "You can see as they're working, like, everyone's just very clean with how they do things. I've been coming here for years."
Anyone who purchased prepared food from the taquería or the prepared food section of the grocery store since Aug. 29 is urged to discard it and not eat it.
Salmonella symptoms usually last four to seven days and most individuals recover without any treatment, according to CDPH.
