Black Maternal Health Week shines light on disparities Black women face on path to motherhood

CHICAGO (WLS) -- One often overlooked condition is endometriosis, which frequently goes undiagnosed in Black women.

That was the case for Kiki Battle, who endured symptoms for decades, before finally being diagnosed in 2019.



After struggling with infertility, she sought treatment at the University of Chicago Medicine, underwent surgery, and welcomed a baby girl in 2024.

Kiki and her surgeon, Dr. Laura Douglass, joined ABC7 to share her story on Saturday.
