Tracy's Sports Shorts: The Master's Gnome

Monday, April 13, 2026
There's another little known Masters star that is causing a frenzy.

When you think about the Masters, you think about the beautifully manicured course and all the past champions.

But one star has emerged that most people don't even know about.

It's The Master's Gnome.

The gnome was first sold in the merchandise tent at Augusta National in 2016 as a novelty for just under 50 bucks. But when it quickly sold out, Masters officials knew they were on to something.

Since then, fans have been scooping them up every year and because each one is numbered, collectors have gotten into the game.

Gnome frenzy is real. This year's version went for $59 each, and they sold out every day of the tournament within 15 minutes of the gates opening.

They're now going on the secondary market for more than a thousand dollars each.

But all good things come to an end. There is a persistent rumor that this will be the final year for the gnome.

Augusta National is keeping tight lipped about it so we may not know until next spring if it's coming back.

And it's not just the Gnome. Over the course of Masters week, it's estimated that Merchandise sold at the tournament generates nearly $70 million a year.

One last thing. Did you know that before the fans are allowed on the course, they have to surrender their cel phones. It's the only sporting event in the world that does it.

That's one of the reasons why the fans are locked in on every shot.

Nobody's taking selfies, nobody's checking their messages. They're solely focused on what's happening in front of them. Isn't that refreshing?
