Strength training could help common neck pain

Strength training could be just what the doctor orders for a common pain in the neck.A new study in the journal Arthritis Care and Research finds that for women with chronic pain in the trapezius muscle, high intensity strength training targeting the neck and shoulder muscles provides long-lasting pain relief.

The trapezius muscle is the one that extends along the back of the neck. Experts say the prevalence of neck pain has increased as more workers spend long hours in front of a computer.

Scientists concluded that supervised high intensity strength training of that muscle three times a week for 20 minutes should be recommended.
