Aurora and Naperville have dropped a plan to blanket both cities with free Internet Wi-Fi service.A company called Metro-Fi of California had planned to provide the service. But the deal depended on both cities buying a new public safety network from Metro-Fi.

After several months of testing, officials decided not to buy the public safety network. So Metro-Fi backed out of the free Wi-Fi deal.

Aurora and Naperville officials say they will now look for another way to provide the service.
