Phone service restored to suburbs

Phone service to many southwest suburban customers has been restored after a widespread outage.

The phones in Summit went dead Thursday morning after a power failure at an AT&T office.

The outage also affected police departments in Summit and neighboring Bedford Park and Justice. 9-1-1 calls in those three towns had to be rerouted to the Illinois State Police dispatcher.

About 97 percent of the phones have been restored. The remaining service should be back by noon.
