The Chicago City Council passed a new curfew for people under the age of 17.Starting on March 12, the curfew will be 10 p.m. from Sunday through Thursday. On Fridays and Saturdays, the new curfew time will be 11 p.m.

The council also approved a measure to increase the real estate transaction tax. It's part of the bill passed in Springfield to close the operating funding shortfalls at the Chicago Transit Authority, Pace and Metra.

The measure means people buying property in Chicago will have to pay $10.50 per $1,000 of the property sale price.

Once the city begins collecting on the tax increase, it will generate $63 million for the CTA.
