Brown Line construction enters new phase

The CTA is continuing an upgrade of the Brown Line. It will enter a new phase this spring. On Wednesday, CTA president Ron Huberman announced that southbound Brown, Red and Purple Line trains from Belmont to Fullerton will run on a single track starting March 30.

This is the same arrangement for northbound trains, but that work is nearing completion.

The reduction of four to three tracks in this area means some service slowdowns should be expected, especially in the morning.

"We are now going to ask our customers on the a.m. rush to leave early, leave late and alternate," said Huberman.

Huberman also announced that eight-car train service on the Brown Line will also begin on March 30.
