We've heard this for years: people who want to lose weight should eat a healthy breakfast. Now a new study says this also holds true for teenagers.

The study in the journal Pediatrics found teens who regularly eat breakfast not only weigh less but also exercise more and eat a more healthful diet than their breakfast skipping peers.

Scientists theorize that, by filling their bellies in the morning, breakfast eaters may control their appetite better throughout the day. It might also prevent food binges at lunch or dinner.

An estimated 25 percent of US children regularly skip breakfast.
