There's a new effort to try and boost employment on Chicago's South Side.

The University of Chicago has created a new "career pathways initiative." It will be coordinated by a non-profit organization to help people with limited employment experience get job training and guidance.

Mayor Daley says it's a way to strengthen Chicago's neighborhoods.

"What we see here is an opportunity to bring business together, work force development and the community together to employ more and more people," said the mayor.

The mayor's Office of Workforce Development will fund the program with city and federal money. The University of Chicago is contributing staff which will work out of the Woodlawn Social Service Center.
