Underweight and over 60 could increase diabetes risk

Underweight people over the age of 60 may have an increased risk of getting diabetes.

Japanese researchers followed more than 120,000 men and women between the ages of 40 and 79 who did not have diabetes. They found that those who were less than the optimal weight were more than 30 percent more likely to develop the disease.

Doctors say the findings highlight the health benefits of maintaining a healthy weight.
