Fire, explosions rock factory

CHICAGO Just after midnight a fire broke out at the Imperial Zinc Corporation in the 1000- block of East 103rd Street. It quickly spread, triggering explosions inside the factory. Because of the size of the fire and the collapse of the roof, they had to battle the blaze from a safe distance.

The fire department's HAZMAT crew was also called in to deal with the dangerous chemicals.

One worker who was inside the building managed to escape. The extra-alarm fire substantially damaged the building.

It's not yet known what caused the fire.
