State Sen. Gard recovering from shoulder fractured in fall

NEW CASTLE, Ind. The 68-year-old Republican from Greenfield says she'll limit her public appearances in the coming weeks while she recovers at home.

Gard's office says she slipped and fell Wednesday while arriving at a breakfast meeting in downtown Indianapolis.

She says doctors had given her a good report, and that surgery might not be necessary.

Gard has been in the Indiana Senate since 1988 and faces a challenge from Terry Michael of Fishers in the Republican primary May 6.
