Fasting could increase stroke risk

New research focused on five years of data from hospitals in Iran, where fasting is a religious practice followed during the month of Ramadan. It found during that month the average number of people admitted for a rare type of stroke increased three times over the norm.

The study was presented Tuesday at the American Academy of Neurology Annual meeting in Chicago. Scientists say the results need to be confirmed but should be looked at carefully.
