Daley proposes turning 5 CPS schools into magnet schools

CHICAGO Mayor Daley announced the plan Tuesday and said schools need to focus more on math, science and technology.

"Technology - this is it! We have to prepare our students. Math, science and technology - those are good jobs. Let's be realistic, if we don't prepare them those jobs are going someplace. And I firmly believe that we can educate our children and they can get these types of jobs," said Daley.

The plan, which requires Chicago Board of Education approval, would convert five schools: Dumas, Dunne, Dvorak, Nicholson and Spencer into technology academies.
