Peoria teen arrested after weapon found at school

PEORIA, Ill. Woodruff High School was locked down for about an hour Wednesday after authorities found the weapon.

They arrested 17-year-old Victor Simmons, who is scheduled to appear in bond court on Thursday.

Authorities haven't said why the teen brought the gun to school.

Peoria School District 150 schools used to have metal detectors at every entrance after a shooting in 2005.

The machines have since been removed, but district officials said some high school students are randomly screened with hand-held metal detectors each morning.
