Mayor Daley and his wife Maggie Daley attended the Holocaust remembrance day held at the Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies. Six candles were lit to represent the more than 6 million Jews who were killed during the Holocaust.
The keynote speaker was Holocaust survivor Marguerite Mishkin. Marguerite and her sister went into hiding with a Belgian Catholic family in 1943 after their father died at the Auschwitz concentration camp.
