Special Olympics back at Soldier Field

Thousands turned out at Soldier Field Tuesday for the opening ceremonies.This year marks the 40 anniversary of the Special Olympics and a return to Soldier Field, where the first Special Olympic Games were held in 1968.

The Games were started by a small group from the Chicago Park District.

The Special Olympics features athletes with disabilities in various track and field competitions.

There are 5,000 Special Olympics athletes in Chicago.
