Two dead after car strikes South Side church

CHICAGO The accident happened shortly before 9 a.m. Chicago Fire Department spokesman Richard Rosado says the car struck the Old Way Mission Church.

Chicago Police spokesman Officer John Henry says the woman driver was killed along with a male passenger. Their names weren't being released pending the notification of next of kin.

Authorities say the driver apparently lost control of her vehicle, crossed the opposite lane of traffic and plowed into the side of the building. The woman reportedly was wearing a seatbelt, but she was pinned inside, along with one of her passengers, and had to be cut from the car.

A third person who was sitting in the backseat was hospitalized in fair condition Friday evening.

Henry says the cause of the accident remains under investigation.
