Fr. Michael Pfleger was supposed to attend the kindergarten graduation ceremony at St. Sabina Academy Saturday, but, Cardinal Francis George ordered Pfleger to take some time off in the last week, following comments he made mocking Sen. Hillary Clinton.
Pfleger made the comments a few weeks ago as a guest preacher at Trinity United Church of Christ.
Those who attended the graduation Saturday said it was not the same without Father Pfleger.
"You could tell there was a silence over the place. I expected to see him today, but I'm sure he was there in spirit," one woman said.
"It's hard not seeing him here. I grew up with him. He is a man I admire and love and respect. So, I send my best wishes and prayers with him," said St. Sabina parishioner Jazonn Young.
Father Pfleger has apologized for his comments.
