Social Security debit to be made available

Millions of Social Security recipients will soon be able to carry a debit card loaded with their benefits. Instead of receiving traditional social security checks each month, the U.S. Treasury Department is now offering a debit card.

The pre-paid MasterCards will be reloaded with each person's Social Security benefits every month.

The cards are expected to help four million Social Security recipients who do not have bank accounts by putting an end to check-cashing charges or the need to keep large sums of cash.
