4 shot, 1 dead, suspects crash on SE Side

Police believe two shootings are connected
CHICAGO One of the victims is dead.

It was a very confusing crime spree for police. There was a car crash and two shootings all related.

Police say the first shooting, involving a 9-year-old child and an adult is related to a second shooting outside Jackson Park Hospital.

The Chicago Fire Department says that they responded to a call of two people shot at 78th and Constance around 5:40 p.m. Tuesday. A 9-year-old was shot. He received a graze wound to the head and was taken to Jackson Park Hospital. A 23-year-old man was also shot in the leg and arm in that shooting and was in stable condition.

"He was holding the top of his head. There was blood and he was crying," said witness Bobby McGee.

McGee said a gunman got out of a car and started shooting, and neither victim had a gun to fire back.

"And then the other guy fell. They were like dodging each other. The shooter fell and then the victim got up and made it across to the other side of the street down there," McGee said.

Then blocks away at 74th and Blackstone, police chased a tan Chrysler involved in the shooting, and it crashed, hitting a parked van and flipped over, hitting another car. Police say one of the suspects fled, and they took the other into custody.

Chicago police say that there was then another shooting in the parking lot of Jackson Park Hospital at 75th and Stony Island. A 22-year-old woman and another man were shot. The woman died.

Those two victims were reportedly at the scene of the crash earlier.

"It appears they knew each other. They are familiar with each other. We don't know if it is gang-related or not," said Cmdr. Dana Alexander, Chicago Police Dept.

The woman killed, Deloris Myrick, was the mother of a 4-year-old, her family said.
