FDA: Mexican-grown jalapenos unsafe for consumption

The FDA found a salmonella strain in a Mexican-grown jalapeno in a Texas plant. The agency called the finding a very important break in the case.

This doesn't mean Mexican jalapenos are the culprit because the peppers may not have been contaminated on the farm.

While tomatoes are currently safe to eat, health officials say the finding doesn't clear tomatoes that were sold earlier in the spring and summer.
