The incident happened at 3314 N. Lake Shore Drive about 5:45 p.m., according to police Major Accidents Investigation Unit traffic specialist Galo Gutierrez.
A man was dead at the scene when crews arrived but was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center to be pronounced, Fire Media Affairs Chief Kevin MacGregor said.
"From what we can see, he just figured he could walk or run across the lanes," Gutierrez said.
The man ran right into the front panel of a white pickup truck, according to Gutierrez, who said the actual impact took place in the second lane, heading west to east.
There were no indications the man was intoxicated, Gutierrez said.
An autopsy for Anderson is scheduled for Friday.
