Two children were rescued from a burning apartment building on the city's West Side Saturday. The fire broke out just before 3 p.m. at 16th Street and Hamlin. Firefighters found the little girls, who are ages 2 and 6, in a bedroom on the second floor of the building.

The girls were taken to Mount Sinai hospital in critical condition.

It is not clear if anyone was watching the children at the time. No one else was hurt.
