State health officials have rejected a plan by Edward Hospital to build in southwest suburban Plainfield. Edward Hospital is located in Naperville. Hospital officials want to build a new $200-plus million facility in Plainfield. Tuesday, the Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board voted 3-to-1 against it. That's the third time in four years.

State health officials said the new hospital is not needed. They also argued Edward Hospital is proposing more hospital beds than state standards allow.

Edward Hospital can ask the board to reconsider the vote at a future meeting.
