House works late in special session

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. Governor Blagojevich called the two-day meeting so lawmakers could work on a deal for those unresolved issues.

The House did take action authorizing bonds for highway projects. If they had not acted on that issue, the state would have lost more than $1 billion in federal money.

House Speaker Michael Madigan also announced he is taking a new look at a proposal to privatize the state lottery to pay for the capital plan, which would provide money to build roads, bridges and schools.
