Cell phone sales on the decline

Twenty-eight million mobile handsets were sold in the U.S. in the second quarter of this year. That's a 13 percent drop over sales during the same period last year. It's also the lowest number of cell phones sold during a quarter since the research firm behind the report began tracking mobile phone sales in 2005.

Many cell phones sold now are more expensive, and most come with a two-year contract.

The report says both may have played a role in the drop.
