CHA warned about gates before boy's death

Federal officials say they warned the Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) about dangerous gates two years before one of them fell and killed a boy. Curtis Cooper, 3, died while riding a tricycle in June outside a Cabrini Green rowhouse project. A seven-foot-high iron gate became unhinged, fell, and crushed him.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development said it found during three inspections that the gates were dangerous.

The CHA says a property management firm didn't repair the gates. It suspended the firm after the accident.
